After a sold-out Nicolas Jaar concert, the new Apgrade party is scheduled for the 5th of December in Belgrade’s hall “Depo” called Apside, whose intention is to bring the audience a programming circuit different from the usual. One of the most prominent representatives of the Detroit scene Mike Huckaby and Swedish rising star Sebastian Mullaert, also known as a member of the cult tandem Minilogue, will perform together at the junction of two different generations of electronic music that binds equally uncompromising artistic approach.
After great performances in Belgrade clubs Wash and 20/44, this will be Huckaby’s first appearances at the “Depo” hall where he will take the big stage to confirm the cult status with the local audience, while Mullaert will demonstrate his live performance to confirm why his new solo career is one of the most remarkable in the past year. Local support will be provided by our internationally recognized producer Dejan Milićević together with Belgrade’s finest Gordan Paunović and Vlada Janjić. Tickets are on sale at the box offices of Eventim and Gigstix at a price of 600 dinars.
Mike Huckaby has an impeccable pedigree earned at the prestigious Detroit scene, where he is crowned as one of it’s leading ambassadors in the world. Huckaby is not only one of the most respected DJs of the “motor city”, but also one of its most dedicated teachers and owner of the legendary record store “Record Time” with an encyclopedic knowledge. He takes care of the future generations of young people through education at the Youthwill center in downtown Detroit, where he teaches the courses of programming in Ableton and Reaktor.
He is one of the few that emphasize the importance of music theory in electronic music: “Jazz is the umbrella under which deep house dwells’. In addition to running two prominent labels “Deep Transportation” and “Synth”, his contributors’ list includes names such as Model 500, Juan Atkins, DeepChord, Terence Dixon, Vladislav Delay, and Loco Dice and many others. This educator from Detroit is a regular at the biggest world clubs such as Berlin’s TRESOR, where he is a resident creating the bridge between the two music scenes.
Sebastian Mullaert is a classically trained musician in piano, violin and organ. At the beginning of his experimentation in electronic music, he meets Marcus Henriksson with whom he forms a band in 1996, which will be present at the world list of best live acts roughly twenty years later – Minilogue. He is also known for as part of the project Son Kite, Trimatic, IMPS, as well as his solo project Ooze. What defines his music is spontaneity and constant changes in energy. He regularly releases music for labels such as Minus, Ovum, Mule and Traum, and Cocoon where his latest album was released under the alias of Minilogue. After the recent evolution of sound in his unique genre direction, Mullaert managed to shake up the global electronic music scene, largely stuck in a creative crisis, where in the last few years sound got too uniformed.
Previous Apgrade events hosted some of the biggest names in contemporary electronic music such as Richie Hawtin, Nicolas Jaar, Loco Dice, Mathew Jonson, Function, Efdemin and others.
